The Confused Pre-Med

I wanted to start this blog because I recently became a pre-medicine major and it was more complex than I could imagine. I immediately had tons of questions: What classes do I need to take? How do I choose a medical school? How do I apply to medical school? What do I need to do to be accepted at a medical school? and on and on and on. The research started and I became overwhelmed. There were all these websites describing the "perfect pre-med student" and honestly I was scared. I did not have the GPA or experience that every website said I needed. I knew I had this dream, but I was unsure how to get there. As the semester progressed, and I continued researching and reading forums, I knew it was possible. Eventually I came to the realization, I must not be the only one who felt this way. I started "The Confused Pre-Med" for those of us who are not the perfect pre-med students and are confused about how to follow our dreams. I want to show people that being pre-medicine is not that scary and is completely doable. This blog will follow my journey through the last half of college, and hopefully help guide you through your pre-med experience.

                                        So who am I?
My name is Abby, and I am a junior at the University of Iowa. I am studying Human Physiology on a pre-med track. I recently transferred from Colorado State University where I was on track to graduate with a biomedical engineering degree I love medicine, but after 3.5 semesters of engineering decided math is not for me. I commute to my classes from home and use that time to listen to "Sawbones: A marital tour through medical history" (personally, I listen on Spotify; can also download here: http://www.maximumfun.org/shows/sawbones). Love this podcast, it is absolutely hilarious and informative! I love dogs, reading, and watching Gilmore Girls with my mom. I love to study in coffee shops and get my best work done in them. I drink way too much coffee, but I am not stopping now!

I can't wait to get to know everyone and please comment any responses or questions!
